History

Eldorado was a gold mining town, as most of the area was, and there’s still plenty of reminders of those days - the largest reminder being The Eldorado Dredge. If gold excites you, be sure to visit the Beechworth Gold Gallery too. You can also find evidence of Chinese mining machinery on the large open rocks down by the creek.

The indigenous people tell us the mountains you can view from our property are shaped like a pregnant woman laying down and that our area of the creek was used as a birthing place many years ago. Learn more about the Bpangerang people, who have honoured this space with a welcome to country ceremony.

We have seen a map which shows where the police chased Ned Kelly and his gang through the bushland on our side of Reedy Creek, through our property and up to Joe Byrnes’ mum’s house just 400m away! And with her living so close, we’re sure this wasn’t the only time they passed through. As the site of their final siege and subsequent capture, Glenrowan is the place to find everything Kelly Gang related.
